What to Wear to Networking Events
At first networking can be full of fears and doubts:
- What will it be like?
- Will I get on with anyone?
- How do I get my message over quickly & succinctly?
- What is my message?
But for some the biggest issue is ‘what do I wear?’
Do I go business smart, smart casual or just as me, at work?
Well if you work from home and rock the mornings in your PJs then this isn’t such a good look. Aim for the smart casual. Wear something you are comfortable in and think that your target client will be looking for. Also remember that you will be on your feet for a long time so wear shoes that won’t leave you feeling crippled. What you wear should reflect who you are and what you do.
I have found that at networking meetings people are generally more interested in you than what you are wearing. Most people you meet will also be small business owners working from home or from small offices so more inclined towards the more casual dress code. Business smart is now mainly worn by those from the big corporates,
Now your outfit is sorted you can start concentrating on the other fears of networking…
